Local man Dave Jarvis set himself a real challenge this year. To mark turning 50 years old, he decided to complete a challenge every month for 12 months in an effort to raise £1200 for the TouchPoint Christmas 2023 appeal.

We are now a little over halfway into the year and Dave has already raised a staggering £1,064 – 88% of his target amount!

These are the events Dave has completed so far:

  • January: Battersea 10km Chase the Moon run
  • February: Cancer Research Winter 10km – and a second Battersea 10km Chase the Moon run
  • March: the Cambridge Half Marathon in just 2 hours 7 minutes – oh, and two other half marathons!
  • April: The Cancer Research Swimathon – and another half marathon!
  • May: The Nuclear Race (which was very hard and muddy)
  • June: an epic 24-hour race, running one mile every hour, on the hour, for 24 hours – and the Henham 10km with his 11-year-old son.
  • July: a one-mile outdoor swim

What an amazing accomplishment. We need a lie down just reading through this list!

Next up are 10km runs in August and September, and three (yes, three!) half marathons across October, November, and December. And depending on how he is feeling and barring injury, he may even attempt a full marathon in November.

We would like to thank Dave from the bottom of our hearts. His efforts are inspirational and will make a massive difference for so many local children this Christmas.

TouchPoint Xmas kids appeal raised over £5,000 last year, which meant that over 200 children in our area benefitted at a time when many families are finding things very hard. Dave’s efforts have given massive impetus to our 2023 appeal! All the money raised will go towards making sure that no local family has to choose between heating their homes and giving their children a gift.
