A community hub

People across the world have been affected by the pandemic and our community is no different. Employment and money worries coupled with loneliness and isolation have had a big impact on mental health and wellbeing. Local people, organisations and groups rallied round during the pandemic doing a fantastic job to support one another. The aim of TouchPoint Stansted is to build on this momentum and help to connect people who need support with those that can offer it, in a friendly and welcoming place. Our community has so much to offer in terms of skills, knowledge and experience!

At the heart of our centre we hope to have the TouchPoint Café. It will be a friendly and relaxing spot that will be open every day serving a tasty menu of hot and cold food and drink. Our plan is that it will be managed by a not for profit, work-based training academy that will also offer training courses at the café supporting members of our community to access jobs in catering, events, and hospitality.

We also plan to host regular sessions with partner organisations including those able to advise on debt management and budgeting, access to employment and developing digital skills. Alongside this, we hope that support groups will hold regular meetings at the centre, including a Dementia Café, a Bereavement Café and a mental health and wellbeing group. We are delighted that other community interest and hobby groups will also be able to continue using the centre as a base. Keep checking back for updates and follow us on Facebook for the latest news and events we have planned!

We are also lucky to have a wonderful community garden, cared for entirely by volunteers. It’s a tranquil spot perfect to relax and unwind in and is open to all to enjoy. If you are interested in getting involved in the care and maintenance of the garden, whether you are an expert or a complete novice, get in touch!

I’ve lived in Stansted for over 30 years, and I think it’s a great place to be. I’m passionate about gardening and the benefits of being outdoors with nature. Having run my own business in learning and development for many years I’ve seen how much people can achieve when they support each other and hope that Touchpoint will provide us with a space to do that.

I have lived in Stansted since I was three, enjoying the community that surrounded me as I grew up. I wanted to get involved with TouchPoint because the past year has been unpredictable and isolating and this project will provide a place for the community to come together and bring some stability back into our lives.

I grew up in Stansted and flew the nest to go to London for a number of years. I chose to move back and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made, it’s so nice to be home and to live within such a lovely community.

Having got involved in volunteering throughout the impact of COVID, I knew that I wanted to make helping the community a permanent part of my life. I’m really excited to see where TouchPoint will go and watch it help our community.

I’ve lived in Stansted for 20 years, brought up my two children here and started my own business as a nail technician. I’ve also worked part time at Stansted Day Centre for the last 13 years cooking hearty hot meals for the elderly residents of the village, whom I’ve got to know and love.

I’m passionate about being able to continue helping our elderly residents, and anyone in need of help and support, after such a difficult time – even if it’s just to sit down for a cuppa and a chat. I’ve seen how small acts of kindness can make a huge difference to people’s lives.

I’m thrilled to be part of the Touchpoint team and can’t wait to welcome people back again!

I’ve always wanted to help others, I think everyone has something inside that wants to offer a helping hand, whether it’s to pick up that pen someone dropped, or point them in the right direction, it makes us feel good. I got the opportunity to help TouchPoint and whilst I have no previous experience volunteering for a charitable organisation, I believed that I have some skills I can offer especially on the Digital platforms for TouchPoint.

I have spent most of my working life in large accountancy firms, and now run my own specialised tax consulting business. I’m very pleased to be part of TouchPoint to provide commercial and strategic experience, in particular because I’ve often seen how relatively small changes can make big differences – in this case developing and connecting facilities and services with

people who can derive great value from them. We’ve lived and brought up our family in Stansted for some 25 years and believe implicitly that strong communities are good for everyone. That, at heart, is what TouchPoint is designed to achieve.

For most of my career I led a business focussed around employment, team building and mentoring. I have also been an active volunteer and trustee in the charitable sector supporting those who are dealing with issues such as unemployment, homelessness and hardship.

Having lived in Stansted for over 20 years I’m a big believer in the strength of our community spirit. I see TouchPoint as a great opportunity to keep improving our shared experiences as a community and the support we offer each other.

I have lived in Stansted for nearly 30 years and think it is a great community with lots to offer.  My background is in pensions and compliance but now I am winding down on the work front, I am very excited to be a part of Touchpoint.  I think Touchpoint will bring a positive offering of support in these difficult times and in the future.
